The second Castrol 75 was run out of a new base in Aberystwyth to bring into play all stages in the surrounding Welsh forests with the evocative names of Hafren, Dyfi and Tarenig.
The 1974 edition of the event had offered a mere 75 stage miles spread over 15 different forests, a year later the change in start venue allowed over 100 miles to be offered in only 9 forests.
When the final route was declared in the Final Instructions one stage had been lost and the stage route was now only 93.5 miles. One of the stages was a short tarmac sprint down from the dam at Nant-y-Moch making the remainder of the route even more awesome.
All the usual Castrol - Autosport runners were on the list of starters, most in one or other of the variants of the ever popular Ford Escort. The only variation in the top ten being Tony Pond's Stratos, George Hill's Magnum, Pat Ryan's Allegro and the Porsche of McCartney and Brown.
Tony Fowkes emerged as the winner by over 3 minutes from George Hill who was only three seconds ahead of Tony Pond.
The event was a great success and the format became the standard many years to come.
